July 2023 – Hub Site Updates

• Sida Rhizomes were sent from RRes Harpenden for planting on 30/06/2023 They were stored in cold storage and planted out at the beginning of July.
• Ongoing weed management control across the site has been the main task in July.
• Some recommendations for post-emergence sprays have been sent from the IBERS team, particularly with regard to the Miscanthus plots.
• Inter-row mowing with a small tractor mower borrowed from the farm has been carried out. The site is also looking to purchase a Micron Herbidome for inter-row spraying.
• The weather has been an issue with the very dry June being followed by the very wet month of July. This has been a benefit for all the plantings but also for the weed establishment.
• The Black Locust ‘Turbo’ is establishing well.
